The Preschool Program offers a flexible range of schedules available three or five days per week as follows:
- Morning Schedule
- Afternoon Schedule
- Extended Day Program Schedule
- All-Day Schedule
Children who arrive early in the morning can help teachers to set up the classrooms or choose their own “work” or activities. Afterwards, preschoolers spend two hours working independently or with friends, freely choosing the “work” or activities that interest them. During this period, teachers observe children, give individual or small-group lessons, and facilitate a peaceful and productive learning environment. Snacks and other food are available all morning. Gross motor activities, such as yoga, are sometimes available in the activity room during this work period. The morning ends with line time and group activities such as reviewing the calendar, playing games, singing songs, or reading stories.
Children who do not stay for lunch enjoy outdoor time before they are picked up while others go to lunch. A fresh and nutritious, chef-prepared lunch is provided each day. During lunchtime, children and teachers are seated family style, and social graces and courtesy are practiced. The children serve themselves and clean up afterwards. Lunch is always followed by time to play outside (unless the temperature is below 20 degrees). Meanwhile, cots are taken out to prepare for naps.
After outdoor playtime, younger children who stay all day will rest. Older children participate in the Extended Day Program with a focus on advanced academic activities. Late afternoon is a time when children reconvene for individual work or transition to the playground. The day ends with games and songs as parents arrive to pick up their children.
A three-hour afternoon schedule runs concurrently with the afternoon portion of the all-day schedule. The afternoon schedule begins with outdoor time on the playground. Following this, the session is devoted to individual work and short group times for calendar, songs, games, and story.
