Fall Harvest Help obtain materials for your child's classroom Montessori materials are well loved and well used by the children at BMS. They are made to be beautiful and durable, but eventually they need replacement. The teachers also like to incorporate fresh activities that fit the Montessori model of hands-on learning. Practical life activities connect the child to daily activities and skills. The classrooms are replacing child-sized cleaning tools and adding more polishing, dusting and floor care materials. Child first use these because the process is engrossing, but later apply these skills to helping maintain a clean environment. (See top right photo, click to enlarge.) We are also trying to replenish all those little objects for sorting, pouring and moving with tongs or spoons. These help us keep the practical life activities inviting to children who are learning these skills or improving them by practicing many times. (See top middle photo, click to enlarge.) Several preschool classrooms are hoping to enrich their biology activities with plant and animal puzzles. These wooden jigsaw puzzles isolate the nameable parts of the animal or plant for later naming. The five animals chosen represent each vertebrate group (fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, mammal) while the botany puzzles picture a full plant, a leaf, and a flower. A child of any age can enjoy and learn from them at many levels. (See bottom right photo, click to enlarge.) If you would like to donate funds for the above works or others needed in the classroom, please stop by Amy's desk and review the Fall Harvest envelopes. |
